Q5 Set to Release New Album
Growing up in as a teen in Seattle I had access to many great rock bands. One of these bands was Q5, who I really enjoyed listening to. As a fan I’ve wondered over the years if we’d ever get new music from them because they haven’t released a new album since ‘When the Mirror Cracks’ in 1986. In 2014 I started hearing chatter from a Scandinavian music festival that I like to go to talking about the band Q5 possibly perform there that year. I kept my ears open as the months went by and sure enough, they did make the schedule. About a month before the festival they did a preview show here in Seattle where I was able to get a glimpse of a band I hadn’t seen in years. This made me even more excited to see them in Sweden. I was fortunate to see them perform this amazing gig at Sweden Rock Festival in one of the most beautiful outlying areas of Sweden, near the city of Sölvesborg. Q5 rocked the crowd pretty hard and the fans loved every minute of it. After SRF they did a limited city tour in Greece that set their wheels spinning to write a new album. It’s been a long time coming, but I am here to tell you, Q5 is making a come back!
Last night I had a chance to sit in on a Q5 rehearsal and sample some live sounds of the upcoming release, ‘New World Order’. Let me tell all of you hard rock music fans something. The music on this new coming album is simply amazing! Not just good, but gritty, heavy, hard rock n roll. This is one of those albums rock music lovers need in their collection. This is not the same Q5 we remember from the 80’s. This is the, I am going to kick you in the face with awesome rock and make you scream for more, Q5. 2016 is set to be an amazing moment for this ‘Steel the Light’ band who are going to make you want even more music from them. On this album you will hear many influences of bands you’ve loved over the years mixed in with the original Q5 sound. I heard hints of AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Tesla, Thin Lizzy, Accept, Van Halen even a little Led Zeppelin on what will be a seriously hard rock album. The one thing I really like about the new music is it’s not so heavy sounding that it will turn off fans who love rock but hate extreme metal, yet it’s not so soft that metal fans will be pissed when they hear it and call it a lullaby collection. This is solid, well written and performed. Worth every ounce of money you will spend to buy it, actually I think it’s a steal for the price.
As many of you know, ‘New World Order’ is set for release on CD on July 8, 2016 by Frontiers Music Srl, coinciding with an official Q5 album release show at Studio 7 in Seattle on the same date. Tickets to the show are available now through etix.com here or if you are local to the Seattle area you can buy directly from the band, just hit up the Q5 Facebook page and ask about tickets. If you can get to Seattle, this is a show you won’t want to miss, plus you can meet the band so why not? It’s going to be one hell of a show. There are also a few of other local Seattle bands performing at the release show that make great music as well; Chasing The Bullet, Lorpan and Perfect By Tomorrow.
